A Platonic solid is a regular, convex polyhedron with congruent faces of regular polygons and the same number of faces meeting at each vertex.

1.all its faces are congruent convex regular polygons, 2.none of its faces intersect except at their edges, and 3.the same number of faces meet at each of its vertices. 4.the circumscribed sphere that passes through all the vertices, 5.the midsphere that is tangent to each edge at the midpoint of the edge, and 6.the inscribed sphere that is tangent to each face at the center of the face.

Aufgrund ihrer Symmetrie haben homogen gefertigte Modelle platonischer Körper, die Eigenschaft, dass sie bei einem Wurf mit exakt der gleichen Wahrscheinlichkeit auf jede ihrer Flächen fallen können.

Der Bauplan ist genau dann ideal, wenn die Ruhepositionen des Würfels aufgrund seiner Symmetrie erst durch eine Beschriftung unterscheidbar werden.


Die Oberfläche setzt sich aus Flächen zusammen, sie sind also Polyeder. Sie sind konvex: Es bestehen keine einspringenden Ecken oder Kanten. Die Kanten haben alle die gleiche Länge. Die Flächen sind untereinander alle kongruent, das heißt, sie lassen sich durch Drehungen und Verschiebungen ineinander überführen. Alle Ecken haben gleiche Flächen- und Kantenwinkel, alle Flächen sind gleichseitig und gleichwinklig. Alle Ecken haben denselben Abstand vom Mittelpunkt. Aufgrund der Symmetrie von Ecken, Kanten und Flächen existiert eine Umkugel, eine Kantenkugel und eine Inkugel. in jeder Ecke gleich viele zusammenstoßen. 2 Ecken mit 7 Seitenflächen.
