English: A plate engraved for the Macklin Bible after a specially-commissioned painting by Philippe Jacques De Loutherbourg. Photograph from the Bowyer Bible, Bolton, England. Bowyer Bible 02.0251. The Deluge. A man, woman and child on rock in stormy sea with Noah’s ark in the background, snakes in the waves at right (Genesis 7:11-12). 1797. Inscriptions: Lettered below image with title followed by "Vide. Genesis Ch. VII. ve. 11, 12.", production detail: "P. J. de Loutherbourg del", "Thos. Milton sculpt." and publication line: "Publish'd 27, Octr. 1797, by Thos. Macklin, Poets Gallery, Fleet Street, London." Print made by Thomas Milton. Dimensions: Height: 484 millimetres (sheet); width: 398 millimetres (sheet). After the painting in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum: 49½ X 39½. |
