Description
English: A plate engraved for the Macklin Bible after a specially-commissioned painting by Philippe Jacques De Loutherbourg. Photograph from the Bowyer Bible, Bolton, England. Bowyer Bible 01.0001. The Frontispiece to the Old Testament. Moses seated at right with tablets, pointing to the heavens with two women at either side of him, one studying a Bible at right and the other praying; dark clouds surrounding, with light breaking through above at left. 1800. Inscriptions:

Lettered below image with title, Bible references to verse from Deuteronomy (6:4), Joshua (1:8), St Matthew (23:10) and St John (3:39), production detail: "P. J. De Loutherbourg Esq. R.A. pinx.", "James Heath Esq. R.A. sculp" and publication line: "London, Publish'd 20th. Octr. 1800, by Thos. Macklin, Fleet Street". Print made by James Heath. Dimensions: Height: 492 millimetres;
