His son, Francis, was sent to London andamassed considerable wealth, besides becoming anauthority on questions of currency and finance. Hewas a director of the East India Company and in1792-3 its chairman. Pitt made him a baronet. Hissecond son, Alexandei, was created Lord Ashburtonin 1835. One of his grandsons, another Francis, becameLord Northbiook in 1866. Yet another grandson,Edward Charles Baring, was created Lord Revelstokein 1885, and Evelyn Baring, his younger brother,became Lord Cromer in 1892.
