Spruce stump mistreated with herbicide, as seen from the red tine running down at the sides. Without herbicide, the cross section of a spruce (Picea abies) is yellow. Spruces are unlikely to grow out again from stumps, making any further treatement expendable. However, a rogue mayor at Keslterbach, Germany ordered his staff to smear these stumps with herbicide, exposing unprepared workers to mortal risk since "glyphosate" is known to cause cancer. As an extra deterrent against activists walking around the forest later it is ineffective though, since this specific poison decomposes quickly after it was sprayed. Apparently this mayor was so incompetent to expose his own staff to higher danger than any activists he intended to hit with the measure.
