Text Appearing Before Image:
en results from the binding process oftight corsets. I am not presenting thesecostumes as a perfect method of dressing,by any means, because a woman must befreed absolutely from restriction of hermovements before we can have anythingapproaching a perfect costume. It is aheinous crime against, womanhood torestrict bodily movements in any way.It lessens a womans strength, it lessensher ability in her chosen sphere or occu-pation. Even the costume worn by theaverage man to a certain extent inter-feres with bodily development; and, what can be said of the apparel thatfashion has decreed should be worn bywomen ? The young girls of to-day arc themothers of to-morrow. The strengthand permanence of the nation dependsupon these young women, but fashionsteps in and proceeds to dictate to ourfuture mothers, proceeds to mar theirstrength and health, and in every wayseriously interferred with the develop-ment of the physical and mental char-acteristics most essential to their com-plete development.
Text Appearing After Image:
One-piece underwear, one-piece corset-cover and underskirt, shirt-waist, yoke and skirt, used in the rational dress of a physical culture girl. THE DRESS OF A PHYSICAL CULTURE GIRL. 545 Corsets are a terrible device. HisSatanic Majesty must have been calledupon for a special consultation whenthese instruments of torture and de-generacy were first invented. Theirorigin resulted largely from the influenceof those whose lives reek with the worsekind of immoralities, and to a very largeextent, the same can be said of theskirts which are considered necessary bythe average woman. It is to be hoped that some day bothof these garments will disappear from theapparel of my sex. They are bothmonstrous in their influence, and whenreal womanhood is sought for and under-stood, they will soon be discarded. Asto what we can expect to take the placeof the skirt, I do not know. Many will,no doubt, suggest bloomers as a sub-stitute, but it seems to me that some-thing more artistic could be recom-mended,
