Summary[edit]
DescriptionPhysarum confertum T. Macbr 734943.jpg |
Physarum confertum T. Macbr. Image location: Tallassee Highlands, Clarke Co., Georgia, USA Found several clumps on dead leaves in an oak-hickory woods, apparently moving up from the humus (they were not in direct contact with dead wood). Round sporangia are mostly, but not all, in globular clusters, like miniature blackberries. Looked black in the field when fresh, dried brown. Peridium thin and fragile, exposing dark brown round spores, diameter 11 microns (photo). Bits of lime are visible but I could not detect a capillitial structure inside. They look like a stalkless Physarum… Used references: http://www.discoverlife.org/mp/20q?search=Physarum+confertum https://www.flickr.com/photos/myriorama/7252406578/ http://oopt.aari.ru/image/Physarum-confertum
