Summary[edit]

Description
English: This silver gelatin photograph shows Arthur and Valerie Lederer with their son Walter, on a beach with palm trees. It was probably taken in Colombo, Ceylon, one of the ports they visited en route from Europe to Australia aboard SS ORAMA in 1939. As the scale of Nazi persecution against the Jews escalated prior to World War II, Arthur Lederer and his family fled from Austria to Australia via Czechoslovakia and Great Britain.
