Title
Portrait of Elizabeth Rivett, wife of Thomas Chute (1660-1702) of Pickenham Hall; collection The Vyne, Hampshire
Portrait at The Vyne, Hampshire, of Thomas Chute (1660-1702) of Pickenham Hall, Norfolk, 2nd son of Chaloner Chute II (1632-1666), MP, of The Vyne, Hampshire. His elder brother Edward Chute inherited the paternal estate of The Vyne whilst in 1700 Thomas Chute purchased his own estate at Pickenham Hall. On the failure of Edward's male line (on the death of his second son John Chute (d.1776) without issue), The Vyne eventually was inherited by Thomas Lobb Chute (1721-1790) (born as "Thomas Lobb", who adopted the additional surname of Chute), the son of Elizabeth Chute (d.1725) (the eldest daughter of Thomas Chute (1660-1702) of Pickenham Hall) by her husband Thomas Lobb (1692-1764) of Great Cressingham in Norfolk. (Burke's Genealogical and Heraldic History of the Landed Gentry, 15th Edition, ed. Pirie-Gordon, H., London, 1937, pp.412-3, pedigree of "Chute of The Vyne")
