Peridium of the myxomycete Lycogala in polaryzed ligh

Summary[edit]

Description
English: Fruiting bodies of myxomycetes are covered with a protective membrane, called peridium. In the myxomycete Lycogala 'succineum' ad int. so-called peridial vesicles are present on the outer surface of the peridium. They are formed from fractions of the cytoplasm, squeezed out of the plasmodium during the maturation of the fruiting body. Due to the light polarization, druses of Calcium salt crystals, which look like blue and orange bodies, become visible. Magnification x400, microscope Leica DM2500, camera Flexacam C1.
