| Description |
English: in 1904, James Noble Tyner was on trial for various charges of fraud linked to his position of Assistant Attorney to the United States Post Office. The central image is Tyner [note the blankets on Tyner's legs and the cushions behind him; these are because, as the result of an illness in 1903, Tyner was paralyzed from the waist down] and his wife, Christine Hinds Tyner. To the far right, the man with a mustache is Tyner's nephew, Harrison J. Barrett, a law clerk -- and Tyner's assistant -- who was implicated in the fraud. At the lower left is Holmes Conrad, who was involved in Tyner's prosecution. Uppermost is Jeter Connelly Pritchard, who served as judge. |
