Description "The Pocket Pistol" (i.e., a flask of whiskey), illustration from "A Peep at Washoe" by J. Ross Browne, in Harper's Monthly Magazine, December 1860. This would be while in California en route to the Washoe Valley in what is now Nevada (then the Utah Territory).
