Summary[edit]

Description
English: Peace Treaty memorial, Station Road, Burley. This is part sign post and part memorial to the "Definitive Treaty of Peace between His Britannick Majesty, and the French Republick, His Catholick Majesty, the Batavian Republick, Signed at Amiens, 27th March, 1802". Actually, this wasn't the end of the Napoleonic Wars but I guess someone thought it was. The stone is not particularly obvious and it's nice to see it has survived unvandalised for so long. It is not marked on my 1:25000 OS map. It is listed by Hampshire County Council http://www.hants.gov.uk/hampshiretreasures/vol05/page065.html where it is described as "Bread Stone. Eyre's charity was distributed from this stone" and dated to 1815. However, for the reasons given above, I think it is probably slightly earlier.
