| Description |
English: Patagonian cavy or Mara, loose in the Chilterns This animal behaved oddly, it hopped along the road ahead of us, and stopped several times, eventually going into the woods. Height about 50cm. I thought at first it might be a young Muntjac deer. But following suggestions from other Geograph contributors, it seems more likely to be a Patagonian cavy, which is also known as a mara. Probably a pet, recently escaped, as it hopped down the road just in front of us. See image at http://www.garden-city.org/zoo/animalinfo/Mammals/patagonian_cavy.htm from garden-city.org . |
