Summary[edit]
DescriptionParry rockpink, Stephanomeria parryi (31781150074).jpg |
Parry rockpink, Stephanomeria parryi, California, White Mountains, Owens Valley drainage, elevation 1380 m (4530 ft). Also visible are desert saucers (Oxytheca perfoliata). My favorite Stephanomeria, as are many other species named after Charles C. Parry (1823-1890). This species is often a challenge to find since it flowers later than most of the accompanying desert species, and dies back to deep rhizomes when out of season. Parry rockpink is nearly endemic to the Mojave Desert of the southwestern United States, reaching its northern limit here in the southwest corner of the Great Basin. On this particular date, plants were emerging all along the west base of the White Mountains, but these were the only flowers of the rockpink I saw anywhere. Peak bloom was clearly going to be late May. |
