Summary[edit]

Description
English: Park and Dockyard. This shot was taken from the northern side of Devonport Park and looks across the slope towards Keyham Yard. This part of the Dockyard was originally known as Keyham Steam Yard. Building work started in 1844 and it was intended to service the new steam ships. The huge building you see in this photograph with the blue DML logo is the Frigate Refit Complex, built in 1977 it provides all weather covered dry docks for three frigate class ships. The building with the clock tower in front of it is part of the original gateway to the yard although "Albert Gate" as it is known has since been moved. The tower block on the left is part of the Dockyard administrative buildings. The building to the right just on the edge of the park is part of Parkside School. An interesting feature of the parkland in the foreground is that it hides large air-raid shelters, although that is better demonstrated in another photograph 288338.
