English: Hebert's monument at Montmorency park in Quebec City
Français : « Le monument Louis-Hébert (1575-1627) avait été initialement installé à la place de l'Hôtel de Ville, où il fut dévoilé le 3 septembre 1918, pour commémorer le troisième centenaire de l'arrivée en 1617 de cet apothicaire français qui est devenu le "premier colon canadien". Le monument fut démonté en 1971 et ultérieurement déménagé dans le parc Montmorency, au sommet de la côte de la Montagne. Les terres de Louis Hébert s'étendaient sur le site actuel de la Basilique Notre-Dame de Québec, du Séminaire, de l'Hôtel-Dieu, et des rues Hébert et Couillard. La statue en bronze de Louis Hébert au sommet du monument, et les personnages des hauts-reliefs en bronze reposant les socles, sont l'œuvre du sculpteur montréalais Alfred Laliberté. L'artiste a représenté Louis Hébert élevant une poignée d'épis de blé vers le ciel, offrant au Seigneur sa première récolte. Les personnages des hauts-reliefs sont : à droite, Marie Rollet, épouse Louis Hébert qui, assise au milieu de ses trois enfants, tient un livre et les instruit; à gauche, une statue du défricheur Guillaume Couillard, son gendre, appuyé sur une charrue. Le piédestal est orné de festons, d'écussons, et d'inscriptions incluant les noms des quarante-sept premiers colons de Québec. » – ggl.ulaval.ca |
