Description
English: For particles that attract each other a square lattice has a much higher potential energy than a hexagonal lattice, so they will slowly rearrange to be as closed-packed as possible. Disks starting at rest on a (slightly perturbed) square grid and interacting with a Lennard-Jones potential. There is no dissipation and the total momentum is zero, so the kinetic energy gained by lowering the potential energy goes into collective oscillations.
