. Eight stations are in commission. All of thebuildings, and the real estate, with one exception, belong to the city. The expense ofthe department for 1909 was $52,235.17. Two Seagrave auto combination chem-icals and an 85 foot aerial ladder truck propelled by auto power have been pur-chased and are expected to be on hand at the coming convention. The fire alarmsystem is a standard Gamewell containing 57 Gardner alarm boxes on five nor-mally closed circuits. Sixty-four Gamewell latest improved succession non-inter-,fering boxes with box starting keyless doors have just been purchased. The pres-ent system contains about 41 miles of wire and the new additions now being con-tracted for will be 20 additional miles. During the past 18 months no additionalhorse-drawn apparatus has been purchased, as experience has demonstrated thatthe auto apparatus, aside from original cost, is cheaper for maintenance, morereliable for long runs an d decidedly more efficient an account of its prompt arriva
