Description
English: LA PURISIMA CONCEPCION MISSION SITE ( 1989 VISIT) ACROSS COLORADO RIVER FROM YUMA, ARIZONA. THE ORIGINAL MISSION WAS DESTROYED BY THE QUECHANS INDIANS BECAUSE THE COLONISTS USURPEDTHEIR LANDS AND IGNORED THEIR RIGHTS. THE PRIESTS IN THE MISSION WERE CLUBBED TO DEATH. THE CURRENT CHURCH, ST. THOMAS INDIAN MISSION, WAS DEDICATED IN 1923 ON THE SITE
