Description
English: 091229-N-9985W-061 CAMP LEMONNIER, Djibouti (Dec. 29, 2009) Senior Airman Carl Johnson sets up a PRC-117 tactical satellite for training at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti. Hands-on training gives personnel the skills necessary to install, operate and maintain these systems in realistic field environments. The antenna he is assembling is a high gain UHF turnstile antenna, consisting of two Yagi arrays mounted perpendicularly on a common boom, fed in quadrature. It receives circularly polarized radio waves, which are used for satellite communication since they are insensitive to the relative orientation of the transmitting and receiving antennas elements.
