Description
English: Line drawing of the Pretoria-Pietersburg 55 tonne 2-6-4T railway engine the "President Kruger" built in 1898 by Beyer, Peacock and Co. for the Pretoria and Pietersburg Railway in the South African Republic. This image appeared in the literature in May 1899, five months before the Second Anglo-Boer War broke out.[1] After the Boer War, the ownership of the 55-tonne locomotives passed to the Central South African Railways and in 1912 to the South African Railways where they were designated as SAR Class D locomotives.
