3. A 350 m l’eau est d’un bleu très foncé. Trois poissons-haches et deux ptéropodes nagent dans le champ. Une anguille bronzée aux yeux bleus lumineux serpente vers les profondeurs. Beebe a montré que le spectre du soleil s'évanouit dans les océans en commençant par le rouge. Le bleu persiste le plus longtemps. - Les poissons-haches (5 cm.) sont argentés et possèdent des yeux téléscopiques, c-à-d. placés sur une sorte de socle, comme cela se remarque facilement sur notre vignette. Une fois que les poissons sont sortis du faisceau lumineux du projecteur, on ne distingue plus que des points lumineux: leur propre éclairage. - L'anguille bronzée, descendant vers les profondeurs, a des yeux luisants d'un bleu intense. - Les deux organismes sont des ptéropodes. vivant en troupes immenses. Ce sont des limaces à palettes natatoires. Leur nombre est tellement énorme qu'en beaucoup d'endroits le fond de la mer est constitué uniquement de leurs coquilles. |
