2. A 240 m de profondeur . La couleur de l’eau passe du vert au bleu. Quatre cyclostomes chassent des copédodes. Deux poissons-lanternes passent devant le hublot. A mesure que l'on descend, l'eau devient plus bleue. Ici, à 240 m., certains poissons, tels les poissons-lanternes (bas de la vignette) ont leur propre lumière ; ils ont des organes phosphorescents qu'ils peuvent actionner à volonté. (Sur terre il y a des vers luisants). Ils s'éclairent donc eux-mêmes. - Les cyclostomes poursuivent de petits crustacés. Des copépodes. Dans les océans la lutte pour l'existence est telle, que le sort des faibles et petits est d'être dévoré par les forts et les grands. - L'énorme gueule des cyclostomes (kuklos = cercle; stoma = bouche) indique suffisamment leur adaptation à la chasse. Ils sont figurés ici en grandeur presque naturelle. |
