a live oak's branches reach towards the light of the rising sun

Over 300 live oak trees call Fort Monroe, VA home. Among the most northern reaches of the live oak's natural range, it is uncommon to find the same concentration of these majestic trees anywhere else in the area. At least one example, "Algernourne Oak," is believed to be approximately 500 years old.
