Yachtsmen havecome to appreciate how much a well-built little boat will stand, if properlyhandled, and it has given them confi-dence. They have also perfected them-selves in the art of navigation and lostall fear of unconfined horizons. Onehas but to compare the early fleets thattook part in the Block Island race ofthe New York Athletic Club, now theclassic small-boat feature of the Easternseason, with those of to-day, to note theremarkable progress made. Six boatstook part in the event at its introduction,and nearly fifty crossed the line last year.
