Commercial Use of Cavies Cavies are useful for medical work, food, fur and fancy.Their usefulness in the medical field is almost beyond com-prehension. Practically every hospital and physician uses iCavies off and on in their medical work. Every universityand medical college keeps large quantities of Cavies on handfor research work. Every laboratory needs Cavies. Onelaboratory near Chicago alone uses 25,000 Cavies each year.

They are also used inlarge quantities on the Pacific Coast. The Government isalso a heavy buyer of Cavies and they use them at theirvarious Research Stations. The above is merely to give a slight idea of the vastquantities in which they are used, and this will give you anidea of the large commercial demand for Cavies. The de-mand for baby pigs is at nearly all times of the year aheadof the supply.
