Summary[edit]

Description
English: A severe and out-of-season heat wave affected Greenland in early September. In some areas of western Greenland, the air temperature anomaly was 15°C higher than the reference value, resulting in a significant melting of the ice cap. According to climatologists of the University of Liège, this episode is the most important melting event of the 2021-2022 season. This image, acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-3 satellites on 4 September 2022, shows meltwaters flowing over the ice cap of southwest Greenland. The Copernicus Sentinels satellite missions play an important role in Arctic monitoring.
