The frameis of gilded wood, and the foundation for the embroidery isof deep maroon silk plush. The design of maple leaves isembroidered in metal beads in various shades of olive-greenand brown, red-brown and yellow. The work is done verymuch the same as crewel work, a silk thread being used,and the beads strung on four or five at a time to form a longor short stitch and of such colors as required. The pieces of plush are firstpasted down on a foundation of crinoline, and when dry,cut out neatly with very sharp scissors and gummed to theplush foundation.
