Description

Kylemore Gardens, Co Galway is the location of this photo. It is part of the Kylemore House / Abbey estate. The Gardens were built along with Kylemore House between 1867 and 1871.

It Transpires that there were 21 heated glass houses including a 60 foot banana house, vineries, peachery, ferneries and exotic fruit and veg of all kinds.

Tropical fruit such as bananas oranges and pineapples along with grapes peaches and other items were raised in the heated greenhouses, which I think is very impressive for a house in Connemara over 140 years ago.
