Summary

[edit]
Description
English: A postcard depicting the Ore Chimney Mine located on the Harlowe Road north of Northbrook, Ontario in the Township of North Frontenac.

The following information is from blog.getrealinontario.com:
A deposit of gold was discovered by Johnny Bey, a Mohawk from St. Regis at Cornwall at a location that would later become the hamlet of Ore Chimney [sic].
The Ore Chimney Gold Mine began production in 1909 as an offshoot of Eldorado and came into being only after a process called cyanide separation was invented to separate the gold from its parent rock. It remained in operation until sometime in the 1920s. There are a number of visible ruins that still can be seen including the foundations of the mill and the shell of the powerhouse although the property is privately owned [sic].
As late as 2011 a company called Vanity Capital Inc. was doing exploratory work to trace the historical veining and structure that was part of the Ore Chimney Mine property main zone. Assay values as high as 4.60 grams per tonne in gold and 1,363 grams per tonne in silver have been reported.

In the 1970s and early 80s, there was considerable work done on the mine by Al Banner. Photos and more information are available at the Cloyne Pioneer Museum an Archives in Cloyne.
