The circum-flex nerve can be exposednear its origin through anincision carried from thebeginning of the arm alongthe axillary surface of theposterior axillary fold. The Median Nerve.—The median nerve can be easily exposed in itscourse along the arm by modifying either of the incisions for ligaturing thebrachial to correspond to the relations of the median nerve to that vessel(Figs. 219 and 222, /). In the forearm, the median nerve can be exposed at three situations: 1,at the upper third; 2, below the middle; 3, above the wrist joint. At the upper third, supinate the arm and make an incision as for liga-ture of the radial artery at that situation (Fig. 335) ; divide the pronatorradii teres and the tendinous arch of the flexor sublimis digitorum, thusexposing the nerve contiguous to which lies the anterior interosseous branch. Below the middle the nerve is exposed through an incision made betweenthe flexor carpi radialis and the palmaris longus muscles, after drawing in-ward the interposing fleshy belly of the flexor sublimis digitorum.
