Summary[edit]
DescriptionOld reversible plow (3498058717).jpg |
I wanted to put a water line on the other side of the field. The prospect of digging a 250 foot trench didn't please me too much, nor did the prospect of paying around $250 to rent a ditch witch for a day to do an hour's work (not to mention that the ditch witch the local rental place has is a real beast and horsing it around is hard on my back). When we bought the farm this old two way single bottom plow was in the woods. 17 years later it was in the same place, so I grabbed it and used it to dig a shallow trench. After putting the polyethylene tubing in the trench I just rolled the sod back over it (more or less). Not as neat or as deep as the ditch witch would have been, but the price was right. The guy that owned the farm before us was in a nursing home for several years before we bought it, so it had been unused and out in the woods for at least 20 years. It took me half an hour of WD40'ing and beating to get the coulter wheels to move. Never did get the other share down, but I only needed one trench and I use a 3 bottom plow for the fields (it goes three times faster, minus the fact that the 3 bottom plow isn't a rollover so I have to drive back to the other end of the field for each pass). They had left a top link on, but it was too long and was so rusted in place that I had to cut the pin out to put another adjustable top link on. |
