| Description |
English: Old railway line Melton Country Park This old railway line between Melton and Scalford was built between 1879 and 1880as part of the longer Great Northern and London North West Joint Railway. It closed in 1953 and now forms a footpath which leads into the centre of the park. The Jubilee Way Long Distance Footpath, a fifteen and a half mile (24.9km) walk from Melton Mowbray into the Vale of Belvoir, uses the railway line here. The railway appears to have a hedgerow along either side of it, but this is actually a self set scrubland habitat which is colonised by a wide variety of animal and plant species. Plants which can be found include Bird's Foot Trefoil, Hope Trefoil, Clover, Colt's Foot, St John's Wort, Ragwort and Toadflax. The hedges consist mainly of Hawthorn trees with some Buckthorn, Bramble and Dog Rose. |
