DescriptionOld image of Barnsley Cemetery (10).JPG |
Barnsley Cemetery, on Cemetery Road, Barnsley, South Yorkshire. The two Gothic Revival chapels were designed by Perkin and Backhouse, completed in 1861, and demolished in 1983. The arcade between them survives, and is a Grade II listed structure. Showing mourners entering the cemetery, following a Barnsley mining disaster. There were many such disasters, so the date is unknown. The costumes suggest that this is pre-1914, and the quality of the image suggests that the original print was an early postcard. |
