Description
English: Old Native Church, Honolulu. Drawn by Francis Allyn Olmsted during his visit to Hawaii in 1840. Lithograph of Endicott, N. Y. Depicted is the fourth grass church at Kawaiahao, built in 1828 under the supervision of chiefs and missionaries. Dedicated in July 3, 1829, it was 196x63 feet (50 feet longer than the present church) and seated more than four thousand. At the time of Olmsted's visit the new stone church had already replaced this grass structure.
