As previously stated, many of the ornaments found in thecremated graves were also calcined and their identity entirely lost, and in Fig. 53one of these orna-ments partly restored,is shown. It wasmade of the outsidepart of the horn ofthe elk, which hadbeen carefully cutand perforated withholes as shown in theillustration. Among the mostinteresting specimensfound with a burial inthis mound were thecarved and polishedbones shown in Fig.54. The two bonesare shown in the illus-tration as they ap-peared in the grave.The decoration uponthem is in every wayuniform, and wasmade by cutting awaythe bone by grindingand polishing, thusleaving the decoratedportion in relief. Atone end the beak of abird is shown, thenostril and eye beingquite plain, biit thedecoration at the other end is not apparent. The opposite sideof the bone is not decorated, but is highly polished. The bonesused for this ornament are perhaps the leg bones of the bear,
