therto the discussions have beenlargely from the point of view of the proponents of waterwaydevelopment and I think for that reason Mr. Yohes paper to-night has been particularly pertinent and valuable in showingsomething of the other side of the question not only in the wayof competition but also the affect on the properties of the rail-roads and the property in the communities of the district gen-erally. The topography in this part of the country is such thatthe construction of the railroads has to a very large extentfollowed the waterways. Changes in the character of the water-ways as proposed will necessarily result in marked changes in 48 the properties of the railroads, and the paper of the eveninghas emphasized the extent and nature of some of those changes.I would like to move a rising vote of thanks to Mr. Yohe forthe paper and to the gentlemen who have participated in thediscussion.
