It will be observed upon examination of Figure 3 thatHancock also followed the type of construction which hasbeen called a fore carriage design, the motor cylinder beingmounted on a revolving frame at the forward end of the car-riage, and constructed to drive a single wheel in the centerof the frame, which was also used as a steering wheel. Thisarrangement was apparently not altogether satisfactory to thedesigner, as it appears from Figure 4 that the mounting of the 12 ProceedingsRailway Club of Pittsburgh.
