Description

"Flying High in New Orleans". Early/Mid 1910s novelty postcard photo showing three New Orleans musicians, left to right Alcide Nunez (clarinetist), Tom Brown (trombonist) and Frank Christian (cornetist) posed in a photographer's prop set depicting them in the basket of a balloon over Canal Street.

The photo at the bottom of the image shows Canal Street looking riverward with part of the 700 to 900 blocks seen with busy streetcar, horse, auto, and pedestrian traffic.

The musicians had the photographer make some copies of this as promotional postcards. By Nunez family story, they had been drinking at the time.
Date or slightly before. (Brown left town that year, Nunez the following. Clearly after the new Maison Blanche Building was completed in 1909.)
