Summary[edit]

Description

Nude pueblo Indian girl holding small child at swimming pool, New Mexico] / Frederick I. Monsen photo, New York.
A Laguna girl holds her baby brother.

Monsen's typed label on back says: "Mojave Indians. Cailfornia. The Mojave are the most war-like of the Yuman tribes. Since known to history they appear to have lived on both sides of the Rio Colorado between the Needles and the entrance to the Black Canyon. Though a river tribe, the Mojave make no canoes, but when necessary have recourse to rafts or balsas, made of bundles of reeds. They have no settlements, their dwellings being scattered up and down the river."
