Summary[edit]
DescriptionNottingham Castle and Newcastle House - geograph.org.uk - 1273748.jpg |
English: Nottingham Castle and Newcastle House Architecture through the ages!
The medieval Nottingham Castle was destroyed following the Civil War. After the restoration The Duke of Newcastle built a palace in its place. This palace still forms the basis of what can be seen now, though it was gutted by fire in the Nottingham Reform Bill riots of 1832. The building was restored to pretty much the form in which it can be seen today in the second half of the 19th century. In front on the right is Newcastle House (that is its name as Grade II listed, the nameplate on the front calls it New Castle House). It was built in 1931 33 as Vyella House for the manufacturers of Vyella fabric. To the far right is the modern rear extension. |
