Round her shoulders is cast a longfur boa, the graceful sweep of which adds greatly to thebeauty of the composition. The background shows the cornerof a house and a blue sky partly covered with heavy clouds. Height, 55 inches; width, 44 inches. The Hon. Maria Liddell, daughter of Lord Ravensworth, married in1818 Constantine Henry Phipps, Marquis of Normanby. He was Sec-retary of State in 1841 and Ambassador to France 1846-1852. Over a long under-sy * /t garment of green is cast a crimson cloak which is caught upat the waist in front. Flowers spring up before her 7 y ^ . feet in luxuriant profusion, as she moves over a stretch of vel- ^ Jj? ~ .* . , . ^ ^ \ /vety turf. Upon her shoulders are a pair of large wings, ruddyof plumage, their pinions half spread in the still air. Her whiterobe is of classic design, clinging softly to her lithe figure, andheld upon her shoulders by a pair of small yellow wings claspedwith pearls. A small urn, from which a slender stream of waterissues, is poised upon her left shoulder, her hands raised ina graceful fashion to hold it in place. Signed at the lower left, E. de M., 1895.
