Durand-Rue:l. No. 126 WILLIAM DOBSON 1610—1646 ELIZABETH, DAUGHTER OF CHARLES I The three-quarter length portrait of the young princessstanding in an angle formed by two stone walls. She wearsa dress of light blue silk, trimmed with lace round the lowneck and short sleeves. A knot of ribbon fastened by a claspwith several pearl drops is in the centre of her corsage, andshe wears large pearls round her neck and right arm, whichfalls in an easy attitude by her side; her right hand slightlyraises her skirt, while her left is outstretched and holds a mini-ature of the king, her father. Her hair falls in long curls toher shoulders, and is dressed in many small ringlets round herforehead, in the manner made familiar to us by Van Dycksportraits of Henrietta Maria. Height, 48 inches; width, 36 inches.

She wears a dress of blue,elaborately ornamented with fleurs-de-lis, the sleeves slashed and decked with pearls. On a fine white stomacher great pearls 7> / < ^ sfsi y and deep blue sapphires are sown in rich profusion. Over her shoulders is cast a long mantle of the same material as her dress, lined and trimmed with heavy ermine. Round her neck is an elaborate lace ruff, and on her powdered hair is set a small crown of pearls and sapphires. Height, 50 inches; width, 40 inches.From the collection of M. Gavet, Paris.
