Original Caption: An interpretive sign tells of when US army troops attacked the village of Chief Looking Glass, a peaceful chief who had sought to avoid conflict with the outbreak of the 1877 Nez Perce War. The unprovoked attack drew him and his village into the war, and set the stage for the Nez Perce flight culminating with the Battle of the Bear Paw near Chinook, Montana, where Looking Glass was killed.
