English: Non compliant signage, Cairns The area around the pine plantation is used for clay pigeon shooting. According to the permanent signage this is continuously used for shooting. As the signs are fixed this either implies that the they are shooting 24 hours a day, or are in contravention of the Land Reform Act 2003. Fortunately, as I was descending at the end of the day it was the former.
There is a similar installation nearby at Colzium. They appear to be aware of the dangers of crying "wolf" and only stick the warning signs up when shooting is in progress. If trying to descend from West Cairn Hill and shooting is in progress (you will hear it) it is easy to safely avoid this area by using a logging road in West Cairns Plantation. |
