Summary[edit]
DescriptionNo Fly-tipping Zone? (34381743536).jpg |
1 May 2017 in Alfoxton Avenue N15. Fly-tipping or rubbish dumping? It sure looks like it, doesn't it? A pile of rubbish bags and boxes stacked in a little 'nook'. Plus two Haringey Council notices nearby on a pole. One warning flytippers: "We're Looking for you". Another with a drawing of a camera. But appearances can be deceptive. Why isn't this a pile of fly-tipping? Because, believe it or not, this is a legitimate location for residents to store their rubbish for collection. "presenting their waste" seems to be the term favoured by waste management professionals. Though "Resenting their waste" might be the view of some people living or working near Wordsworth Parade who put up with a daily pile of trash. Several times each week, staff from Veolia (Haringey's waste contractors) park a truck across the street in Alfoxton Avenue and remove accumulated waste. Is this waste management system a sensible and desirable arrangement? Plainly not. Is there some sensible, desirable, reasonably priced alternative? Apparently not. Or at least, not yet. Does it perhaps encourage others, traders, other residents and perhaps a few passers-by to add their own waste to the pile? A 'magnet' effect? I don't know but it wouldn't surprise me. How long has this been going on? According to Google Street View, this nonsense has continued for at least for nine years. § Dumping in April 2016 recorded by <a href="https://www.google.com/maps/@51.5875346,-0.1010629,3a,75y,71.83h,82.54t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sYLWTuCtsWW6Z-YUsueThDw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656" rel="noreferrer nofollow">Google Streetview</a>. § And <a href="https://www.google.com/maps/@51.5876088,-0.101115,3a,75y,109.22h,69.05t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1s-Fig23_tePrCRYNXpdRTmw!2e0!5s20150501T000000!7i13312!8i6656" rel="noreferrer nofollow">in May 2015</a>. § Also in <a href="https://www.google.com/maps/@51.5876088,-0.101115,3a,75y,109.22h,69.05t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1soGLqyZca_XCo0oL3Ec4vaA!2e0!5s20140801T000000!7i13312!8i6656" rel="noreferrer nofollow">August 2014</a>. § Wanna see <a href="https://www.google.com/maps/@51.5876335,-0.1011323,3a,75y,109.22h,69.05t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1saphT8G0TA_a8EE_jmjsEFQ!2e0!5s20140501T000000!7i13312!8i6656" rel="noreferrer nofollow">May 2014</a>? § How about a trip down memory lane to <a href="https://www.google.com/maps/@51.5876088,-0.101115,3a,75y,109.22h,69.05t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sbVKkch-EMtsCX76XS1qW5g!2e0!5s20120701T000000!7i13312!8i6656" rel="noreferrer nofollow">July 2012</a>? § Or let's time travel to <a href="https://www.google.com/maps/@51.5876088,-0.101115,3a,75y,109.22h,69.05t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1saB5G0G67pBdvvA1EuBtjOA!2e0!5s20110801T000000!7i13312!8i6656" rel="noreferrer nofollow">August 2011</a>. § Finally here's Google Streetview's earliest 360 degree photo record <a href="https://www.google.com/maps/@51.5876088,-0.101115,3a,75y,109.22h,69.05t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sWI75a7xeEyWbB2qY8oS3_g!2e0!5s20080901T000000!7i13312!8i6656" rel="noreferrer nofollow">in September 2008</a>. |
