Title
English: Episode of the 1848 battle of Schleswig. Oil study.
Dansk: Episode af slaget ved Slesvig. Studie.
Object type painting
object_type QS:P31,Q3305213
Description
The battle of Schleswig was fought on April 23, 1848 between Denmark and a mainly Prussian army, supporting the insurgents from Schleswig and Holstein. The Danish forces were outnumbered, and the painting illustrates an episode where two Danish guns were being taken by the Prussians, only to be retaken by a Danish dragoon attack. The layout of this study is much simpler than the resulting painting, made by Simonsen in 1849.
