Title
English: New steel water main under Second Avenue in Renton, February 23, 1923
Description
English: In 1899, the city of Seattle gained a right-of-way for its Cedar River water mains to run through nearby Renton. Renton was connected into the Seattle Water Department system in 1905. In 1923, water department workers laid a new steel pipeline along Renton's Second Avenue.

In this February 1923 photo, taken looking east along Second Avenue in Renton, workers look into the trench where the large crane (center) will lay the new water main. Lengths of the new steel pipe (r.) line the edge of the ditch. This photograph may have been taken by James Lee of the Seattle Engineering Department.
