Description |
Postal stamp issued by New South Wales on 1st January 1850, valued at 1d (one penny) and printed in red ink. One of three "Sydney Views", the others being valued at 2d and 3d. The illustration shows a view of the town of Sydney behind a figure of Industry releasing convicts from their chains and pointing to a ploughed field. Around the image is the text "Sigillum Nov. Camb. Aust." ("Seal of New South Wales") with the motto "Six fortis Etruria crevit" ("thus mighty Etruria grew") underneath. The stamp is unused. Held and digitised by the British Library. |
